• Glen Putman

    senior pastor

Diane Sparkman Putman and I have been married since August 9, 1975. We have one son, Rhyne. Rhyne is the Assistant Professor of Theology at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and is married to Micah Elder Putman. They have one son, Ben, who is my favorite grandchild.

I came to WSBC in February of 2001. At that time the church was about to move into the new sanctuary. Since that time we have been blessed to watch the congregation grow and missions expand all around the world. God has truly added to His church and deepen it with His love.

I surrendered to the call of the ministry in April of 1973. Although I gave my life to Christ when I was 9 and I first sensed the call to ministry when I was 13, I had some troubled teenage years. God used some people who were really the salt of the earth to turn my life around. Since that time I have be privileged to serve 9 churches in 5 states as Senior Pastor. Before I came to WSBC, I served as the Minister of Biblical Guidance at Bellevue Baptist Church with Dr. Adrian Rogers.

After surrendering to the ministry, I went to Blue Mountain College and got my B.A. in Biblical Studies. My next step in my education was at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where I received a Master of Divinity with a major in counseling. I continued my pursuit in ministry by getting a Doctor of Education from Mississippi State University in Counselor Education.

My favorite fun books and movies are action/adventure. I am an avid golfer (not a good one).

My verses I dream to fulfill are: Psalm 40:9-10 I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation; Behold, I will not restrain my lips, O LORD, You know. 10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation.

Let me encourage you to follow after Jesus. The gospel is that in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ God did something for you that you could not do for yourself. You need Jesus. As a member of the kingdom of God, Jesus is to be reigning within your heart. In a positive response to Jesus, you will find an abundant life.

Please let me know if you have any questions about WSBC. If you are looking for a Bible believing and teaching church, WSBC may be the church for you. Feel free to contact me personally.

  • Grey Falanga

    Associate Pastor of Teaching
    & Minister of Collegiates

My wife Sarah Elizabeth and I moved to Walnut Street in 2012. Since then we have added Rhett and Caroline to the family! I attended Mississippi State University for my bachelors and then received an MDiv from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. My favorite verse(s) would have to be Acts 20:24 and all of Psalm 1! As of October 1, 2014, my favorite books are “The Insanity of God” by Nik Ripken and “The Grace Awakening” by Charles Swindoll. I enjoy playing with the kiddos, hunting, working in the garden, and working with my horses.

Our prayer for you if you are not yet a member of a church, is that you will plug in and get connected to a local body of believers so that God could use you to impact the world for the advancement of His Kingdom. If you have any questions or thoughts please send me an email or call the church and give us a chance to meet one another face-to-face.

  • Courtney Schmidt

    MInister of Students

I have been married to my wife, Crystol, since 2000. We have two daughters – Baileigh and Addalyn. I have served here at Walnut Street since April, 2014. It is a blessing and honor that God has allowed my family and I to have this great opportunity to serve here at Walnut Street. I am currently attending Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary for Biblical Studies. I love to dig into God’s Word as well as hang out with my family and friends. I enjoy weight lifting, college football, and the Cardinals.

I have a passion to preach the gospel and reach the lost. My goal is to make sure each student has a clear understanding of the gospel and how it applies to and affects their life. Each student must take ownership of his or her faith. I want each student to understand they are a vital part of the church and that they have a calling to exercise their spiritual gift(s) to edify the church as well as reaching the lost world with the gospel.

I challenge our students to connect, grow, and go. They need to make sure they have an unhindered connection with God. Each student needs to have the assurance of their salvation and it is essential they are living their life to bring honor and glory to God. They need to make sure they are connected to fellow students. Being involved in a community of other like-minded believers is essential for our spiritual life. Our love for one another proves that we belong to God. As students are connected to God and to one another, it fosters growth. It is essential for students to grow in their spiritual life as well as in their relationship with one another. As students are connected and growing, I challenge them to go and reach the world with the gospel.

God has been and continues to do a great work in our student ministry here at Walnut Street. We have a great group of students and an incredible group of adult volunteers who love pouring into the lives of students. We would love for your to connect with us and experience God’s presence through worship and service. If you have any questions, feel free to call the church office or email me.
